Great site Kenny.

Technical Analysis written in a straightforward way so that everyone understands.

There's only a small few who get it consistantly correct and you are certainly in that group. Chris

Online Stock Brokers Comparison

Stock Market Trading

Our online stock brokers comparison explains the different type of stock broker services that are available. You can compare stock brokers  to find the most popular brokers.

Stock Brokers

A stock broker is a regulated company  who buys and sells shares and other types of stock market investment on behalf of investors

There are three types of broker services.

  • Low commission Stock Brokers
  • Advisory Service Brokers
  • Full service Stock Brokers

Low commission Stock Brokers

Low commission stock brokers such as zecco are called Discount Stock Brokers. They offer an execution only service for buying and selling investments.

In short, they will not offer you any financial advice but will be able to give you a much cheaper rate of commission charges as a result.

This option is ideal for anyone that knows exactly what they want to buy or sell and don't need advice from an  investments adviser.

Advisory Service Stock Brokers

Advisory stock brokers provide a service where the broker gives you advice on which stocks and investments to trade and then leaves the decision up to you whether to take the advice and  invest or not.

Using this type of service is usually a bit more expensive than the dealing costs with low commission stock brokers on an execution only basis.

Full Service Stock Brokers

Full service stock brokers also known as Discretionary Brokers and are at the top end of the scale. You give a discretionary brokerage full authority to manage your investments portfolio on your behalf.

Full service stock brokers take the decisions about what where and when to invest in, based upon the parameters you have set them to meet  your objectives.

These parameters may be about the level of risk you are willing to take or perhaps you only want to invest in ethical investments. They will look for the best investment opportunity within what ever restrictions you have agreed with them.

The down side of this type of service is the costs. These may be prohibitive for the small investor as some Discretionary Brokers will set a minimum level you must deposit. The dealing charges for this service are usually more expensive and you will probably have an account management fee to pay.

Buy and sell stocks without a broker

There are a limited number of ways that you can buy and sell stock without a broker but generally speaking you will need to use the services of stock brokers for buying and selling stocks.

If you want to do it yourself you will need to find a buyer or seller for the opposite side of the deal but there will still be some administration costs.

  • You find a buyer. It could be a family member, a friend or a relative and then you contact the stocks administering agent to arrange transferring registration into the buyers name.
  •  You can gift stocks to your favourite charity. Arrange transfer of ownership to the charity by contacting the stocks administration agent. Charities will often get special deal rates from brokers.
  • Dividend reinvestment plans. Many stocks have a DRIP plan that allows you to receive dividend payments in the form of additional shares. This can be a good way of increasing your holding in a long term investment.
