Trading Money Management Systems

Learn Stock Market Trading Money Management

Trading Money Management Systems

A Trading Money Management System - What is it, how do we do it, what is it for and does it work?

Why Do Most Traders Lose Money?

Why Do So Many Traders Lose Money? Even flipping a coin would give an average of a 50% rate of return, heads we go long, tails we go short - 50% right, 50% wrong - so in theory, even someone who does not know what they are doing should win some and lose some, but end up more or less at break even - so why do so many stock market traders lose money?

We traders have many trading systems and indicators that can significantly improve on that average 50% win-lose ratio and yet, most traders still lose money, Why is that?

The main reason is that most traders simply don't have any sensible trading and investment money management strategies in place to protect themselves when they get it wrong. Human nature compels us to avoid the bad things that happen to us and to take the good things.

When Our Natural Instincts make us Lose

In the real world, this is understandable as it helps us humans to survive by avoiding danger and to thrive by grabbing what is good for us. In short, and in trading terms, that means our natural instincts are to take profits too early and to run the losers, the complete opposite of what we need to do to become successful traders.

We grab what is good for us by taking the profits when they are there and then we bury our heads in the sand when the market is going against us. We are putting off what we perceive to be bad for us in the hope that it will get better, and that we can make a profit from it instead - the good bit.

It is this imbalance that wrecks the 50-50 win-lose ratio and ensures that most traders in the stock market lose money.

Small Wins + Big Losses = Disaster!

Trading and Investment Money Management

Stock market traders must learn how to overcome those natural instincts to become consistently successful by turning the balance of that equation around to ensure that their gains outweigh their losses. Successful traders can consistently make money even if their win-lose ratio is no more than that 50% that can be achieved through the flipping of a coin as a trading strategy, simply by ensuring that their gains are significantly higher than their losses.

By contrast, a trader can have a significantly higher win to lose ratio and still lose money overall. If the losses incurred are not limited and kept to a minimum, gains made from many trades can be completely eroded on one bad trade. Weeks or perhaps months worth of hard earned profits can simply disappear in a very short period of time if losses are allowed get out of control.

However large or small a traders portfolio, the principles are the same...

Big Wins + Small Losses = Successful Trading!

There are very few stock market Trading Money Management software programs around so we have developed the Traders Day Trading Money Management position size calculator which is an integral part of the excel worksheet that we have made available to subscribers to our free mailing list.
