There are various methods of confirming wave counts such as using trend channels to more elaborate indicators such as momentum and simple moving averages.
Elliott Waves should have the 'right look' and a good rule of thumb is that if you can not see a clear wave count within 5 minutes of looking at a chart then you should probably move on to look at another market until the price action becomes clearer.
